Established in 1975, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is one of the first four faculties of University of Science and Technology – The University of Danang. During the past 45 years, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has accompanied the University to fulfil the missions of teaching, scientific researching, technology transferring that the Government has entrusted to the University.

Some major milestones in the process of formation and development of the Faculty:

  • 1975: The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was established, comprising 04 specialized Groups.
  • 1980: The change from Groups to Divisions.
  • 1987: The Division of Automotive Engineering was separated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and merged with the Division of Thermal Power (Faculty of Electrical Engineering) to form the Faculty of Energy.
  • May 1993: The divisions of the Faculty were adjusted, including 06 divisions.
  • 1995:
    • The Division of Engineering Mechanics, Fundamental of Machine Theory and Mechanisms – Machine Elements, Descrptive Geometry – Engineering Drawing were separated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in order to establish the Faculty of Technical Facility (then called the Faculty of Technical Education).
    • The Division of Automotive Engineering was re-imported to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2001: The Mechatronics Engineering training program (MEETP) was established.
  • January 2005:
    • The Division of Automotive Engineering was separated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering to establish the Faculty of Transportation Mechanical Engineering.
    • The Mechatronics Division (MEED) was established.
  • Currently, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering consist of 03 divisions: Manufacturing Technology, Mechatronics Engineering and Material Technology with 32 members, including 02 Associate Professors, 10 Doctors, 04 PhD students, 17 Masters and 01 Engineer (09/2020).

Since 1975, there have been more than 10,000 engineers and over 100 masters and PhD graduating from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Besides, the Faculty also opened new majors such as Mechatronics and Steel Roll Mechanics with large training scales and various forms.

Currently, there are over 1,400 full-time undergraduate students, as well as many graduate and doctoral students studying at the faculty with following majors:

  • Engineer’s degree: Manufacturing Technology, Mechatronics Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering – Aerospace Mechanics
  • Master’s degree: Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering
  • Doctoral degree: Manufacturing Technology

Complete the curricula of Manufacturing Technology and Mechatronics Engineering major to get ready for AUN quality assessment.

Strengthen the cooperation with companies and corporations in order to create a firm cohesion between training and practice.

Main researching direction: machining complex surfaces with high precision, applying new materials, advanced machining methods, designing and manufacturing equipment, automatic production systems, and applying automatic control to production processes.

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering now has 12 specialized laboratories, 01 workshop, 01 research center, and 01 Institute of Mechanical Technology & Automation with equipments, machines and tools ranging from traditional to modern models.

The facilities of the Faculty are heavily invested and considered to be complete, well meeting the needs of students and staff to carry out experiments and practice.

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has a deep cooperation relationship with the Association of Mechanical Engineering, the Association of Automation and the Association of Metallurgical Mechanics of Da Nang; companies and enterprises, such as Song Thu Company, Hai Van Cement Joint Stock Company, Da Nang Rubber Joint Stock Company; and other universities, including Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Pham Van Dong University in order to co-operate in teaching, training, and scientific research to enhance training quality.

Besides, the international cooperation relationship is also strengthened through the University’s activities and faculty staff who are working as PhD students in foreign countries. Many professors from other universities and research institutes, such as ÉTS (Canada), Grenoble (France), Milan (Italy), Kaohsiung (Taiwan) … are currently collaborating with the Faculty in scientific research and graduate students instruction.

In addition, technology transferring activities are accelerated more than ever with many training courses to improve the skills of technical staff in the field of CAD/CAM/CNC, designing and programming for industrial automatic production systems, researching and manufacturing automatic equipments to serve production fields according to specific requirements of enterprises, and to meet the increasing demand of the regional industry.
